Italian scrap prices return to pre-lockdown levels
Source: Kallanish
Italian scrap prices are slowly returning to the levels seen in February as prices are rising by €50/tonne ($53/t) for certain grades compared to the low points of last month.
This is explained by the poor availability of material as the market remains quiet despite the end of the lockdown. Finished products’ sales also remain extremely challenging, Kallanish hears.
This month, and unlike the usual flow of imported scrap, no supplies have been sent to Italy from Germany and France, and no new scrap has been produced in Italy over the past two months.
E8 new arisings mixed grade is mostly back at €245-250/t delivered for the mixed grade and €260/t for the higher quality. Last month E8 prices started at €220/t delivered. Prices for E1 are back at €240/t and €10/t less for E3. E40 shredded grades are at €248-250/t delivered, sources say.
